A beautiful day in Lucerne
, Aug 2022
Conrad was a wonderful guide with a great sense of humor. Lucerne was beautiful. We walked through the covered bridge, took a beautiful lake cruise, and enjoyed good food and a yodeling concert!
Great Tour of Lucerne district

It was a great day and we saw so much. Trudy the tour guide was the best! Would definitely recommend this tour!
Lucerne Day trip

While we absolutely loved getting to visit Lucerne and would go back for a visit in a heartbeat I honestly think you should just take the train over yourself and not even bother with going with this tour. We were happy to get to have 6 hours to ourselves getting to do whatever we wanted through the city, that is why we booked the tour but all it really was, was transportation. What really disgusted us with the trip was when we arrived at the meeting point before we were sent off from the “tour guides” we asked MULTIPLE times if we would meet at this point so we could pin the location on our phones for an easy way to get back when it was time to leave. We arrived 15 minutes early and the only person to show up was the one other person in our group. (This tour bus had about 4 different tours going on) we waited together and nobody showed up when all of a sudden we saw our bus fly past and go way up the street a far walk from where we were told to meet. When we looked up the street all of the guides and all of the other people on the other tours were waiting to get on the bus. So to sum it up they told us the wrong meeting point or just never bothered to let us know that it was maybe changed and the guides did not care one bit if we were left behind. Again. We wanted time to explore and got that, but could have easily just taken a train for ourselves.

Dear Angela, Thank you very much for participating in our day trip to Lucerne and for taking the time to share your experience! While Lucerne can certainly also be visited individually by train from Zurich (from CHF 50.- per adult), the historical information and personal anecdotes shared by our tour guides are the main reason why guests opt for a guided tour rather than an individual visit. We are sorry to hear that you had difficulties finding your way back to the meeting point at Frankenstrasse 2-4. Like all other guests on your tour, you had been provided with a brochure including a detailed map of the meeting point as well as an emergency number to call in case you need any assistance. Please rest assured that our tour guides are instructed to report all missing guests to our office, from where we call the guests to find out about their whereabouts before authorizing the departure of the bus. If guests are running late more than 10 minutes, we assist them to return to Zurich by public transport, but anyone that is close by will still make it to the bus and will not be left behind. We hope that you will still keep your visit to Lucerne in fond memory and hope that you will give us a second chance to convince you of the quality of our tours during your next visit to Switzerland! Best regards, Amanda from Best of Switzerland Tours

Lucerne Day trip was fantastic
, Mar 2022
Much to our surprise we actually had a tour guide in Lucerne even though the description said we would be on our own. Our guide (Ralph) was extremely knowledgeable and walked us smartly to all the highlights - he gave us time to have lunch on our own and free time after he had pointed out all the highlights. He made it an absolutely delightful day.

Perfect trip to explore Lucerne
, Oct 2021
Awesome trip. The best part was that it was a partly guided tour, just what we wanted. We could explore Lucerne at our own pace and utilized all the 6 hours of the trip. Google map did help a lot to direct us to the various spots we wanted to visit in Lucerne including the Chapel Bridge, Jesuit Church and Lion Monument. Perfectly timed trip.

Good transport to Lucerne
, Oct 2021
Pleasant way to get from Zurich to Lucerne, taking the scenic route (freeway route back). Not really much of a tour of Lucerne as we were the only ones staying there for the day while the rest of the travelers on the coach went on to Mt Titlus etc, but we were prepared to guide ourselves with our Rick Steves book.

Dear Nancy, Thank you very much for participating in our tour to Lucerne and for taking the time to submit your review. As officially stated in our programme, our tour is accompanied by a professional multilingual guide from Zurich to Lucerne and back to Zurich in the evening. In between, the guests discover the city at their own pace with the help of a comprehensive information booklet with upgrade options as well as recommendations of sights and activities. We hope that you enjoyed your stay in Switzerland and look forward to welcoming you back on our tours soon! Best regards, Amanda from Best of Switzerland Tours

Lucerne is such a picturesque town and an absolute must see. People were friendly and the sights were magnificent. I especially liked the bridges with their rich history and paintings.

Beautiful city to visit
, Jan 2020
The trip to Lucerne was comfortable in a very new coach. The city itself is well worth seeing. So many magnificent historic buildings. A beautiful river and lake. Great shops and restaurant. The only down side was the guide who gave us minimal information about the area we were travelling through. He only spoke - repetitively about meeting times and places to meet. I completely understand this - you don’t want to lose anyone - but he did go on and on rather! Could he have forgiven him if he had given us some local history or local colour

Loved Lucerne
, Dec 2019
I enjoyed the tour and we had plenty of free time in Lucerne to enjoy the city. The itinerary said that we would have a brief tour of the city and we did not. This was a disappointment.
Review of Lucerne City Tour
, Nov 2019
I did the Lucerne "city tour" without the Mount Pilatus component because I had just done a Matterhorn trip the previous day and had had enough of mountain trips for a while. The Old Town area is fun to wander around in. The "Tour" isn't really a tour--the bus drops you off with a paper map that points out possible places to visit. As I am reasonably fit, I hiked up to the steep Musegg Fortification Wall. It was a great place to take photos of Lucerne, as well as see a few animals like buffaloes and jackdaws, which I normally don't encounter. Certain areas have electrified wire, so don't back up into these areas when walking backwards to get a landscape shot. For those people who continued up to Mount Pilatus, probably all they had time to see while in Lucerne itself was the Lion Monument, and the Chapel Bridge. As I had 6 hours, I did these plus the Jesuit Church, Rosengart Collection, and Transport House, as well as eat venison sausages and rosti at a fine Swiss Restaurant (Café Le Ville--since the bragged-about Pfister Restaurant was closed)--sort of as a "culture enrichment" day. As long as one is good with a map, you'll find these places. If you use your cell phone to find places-- as you will see dozens of people robotically do with eyes glued to their cellphones- get an international plan, because otherwise you would have to pay heavily if you don't have such a plan. The ride to Lucerne provided many chances to see the unique designs of farm houses in what you pass, so you do see more than if you were taking a train, say from Zurich (which was my base) to Lucerne. If I were to do this trip again, however, I would add Mt. Pilatus. as there aren't enough things that fascinate me for 6 hours in just this one city.

Wonderful day trip. The bus ride is great and comfortable. Our guide, Antje was PHENOMINAL!! We have 6 hours free in Lucerne before heading back to Zurich. Well worth the money and time, but bring more money, cause shopping is endless and expensive in Switzerland!

Lucerne City
, Jul 2018
It was a nice comfortable drive from Zurich with guide/driver. He gave us a lot information about Switzeland during the ride. We have about 5 hours to explore Lucerne on our own. Nice small town with a lot of sightseeing.
, Jun 2018
Bus guide had to speak in two languages so spoke nonstop. Once in Lucerne too many people in tour group all herded into Harry’s watches. No one could hear. Bus guide explained where to meet in one language only. We left the city tour after 10 minutes as a few people were dominating the guide who was focused on getting one person to a restaurant. Again in two languages. (If have more than one language you should have two tour groups) at the end of a long day the bus was extremely late arriving. Would never recommend this tour

This was a wonderful day with plenty of time to explore Lucerne . The town is picture postcard material with lovely restaurants medieval history and the beautiful lake I would not recommend this tour on a Sunday as the shops are closed and there is 6 hours to fill in without shopping but apart from that highly recommend this tour

Great day trip out of Zurich. Plenty of time for looking around, sightseeing, taking in the sights and shopping too. Enjoyed the visit to Lucerne and look forward to a return visit. The meeting spot for the return journey is convenient and easy to find near the train station. I recommend the day trip for those looking for opportunities to explore Switzerland.

Took this tour in December. Our guide Jorge gave commentary along the way in Spanish and English. Good story and he pointed out interesting spots as well as history. The first stop at the Lion Monument was very brief, but adequate. We were then dropped off at their offices in old town, which turns out are a series of watch and souvenir shops owned by a single company. There you can use the bathrooms without paying a fee. Then we were turned loose for 6 hours on our own. This is both good and bad - if you like a lot of time you can take short 1 hour or long 3 hour cruises on the lake and wander around, or you can get bored. We elected to head back to Zurich on own own by train rather than wait for the bus because the latter was our case, even after taking a one hour lake cruise. Check your vouchers because we had prepaid for the lake cruise but were not given the tickets at the starting point in Zurich which we should have, so Jorge needed to call back and then issue us tickets on location. If you go in December as we did and are looking for Christmas markets, don't settle for the little one in the train station. There is a much larger and more traditional market in the Franziskanerplatz just a few blocks away from the station. All in all a pleasant trip, but we found six hours to wander Lucerne on our own was too long.
