Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Make your own way to the Zealandia Visitor Center, just outside of Wellington city center, in time for a 10am, 11am, or 1pm departure (depending on tour time selected). After meeting your guide and small group of no more than 10 participants, set out on a 2-hour walking tour of the park.

Learn more about Zealandia and its pioneering conservation efforts as you follow your guide around the park’s walkways, exploring the lush forests and wetlands. Along the way, stop at viewpoints and feeding stations, and look out for green gecko, tuatara, and native New Zealand birds. Kākā (bush parrot), kakariki, tūī, tīeke (saddleback), hihi, and bellbirds are all common sightings, and you might even spot rare birds including the flightless takahē.

After 2 hours exploring the vast parklands, your tour ends back at the Visitor Center.
Itinerary

Fantastic guided tour

Grant (1pm Thurs 24/6/21) was an excellent guide. He knew where to look to see numbers of birds (10) , recognize bird song and spot the bird. Was awesome. Saw birds we had never seen in live form.

The tour of Zealandia was a wonderful experience. We saw many birds and Tuartares. We enjoyed the trip across the dam in an electric powered boat. The whole conservation concept is very impressive. The guide was very knowledgeable and a good communicator.

Really enjoyed it. Jim our guide was very knowledgable and enthusiastic which made it so enjoyable. His knowledge of the birds and trees was incredible and interlacing it with Maori uses and folklore made it special.

So many different birds to see!

Thoroughly enjoyed our morning tour with Manuela this week. We saw far more native New Zealand birds than we had done on bush walks in the previous fortnight on our own. Zealandia is is a fascinating 500 year project and the area seems to be responding to the care and attention from so many volunteers. Highly recommended. Thank you!
