What To Expect

After being picked up from your Ubud hotel, meet your guide and small group of no more than 15 people to discuss the day’s menu. Once you’ve decided on which dishes you want to cook (depending on your group’s preferences), follow your guide to the local market to shop for fresh ingredients.

Enjoy a glimpse of typical Balinese life as you explore the bustling marketplace, listen as your guide explains the different produce on sale and help select the fresh meat, vegetables, herbs, and spices that you’ll use in your cooking class.

On the way back from the market, take a scenic detour through Bali’s famous rice paddies and get chance to chat with the local farmers and see the workers planting or harvesting the crops.

On arrival in Kelabang Moding Village, take time to peek into the village school and temples, before being welcomed into a traditional Balinese home to begin your cooking class. Then, it’s time to get hands-on as you create an array of delicious Balinese dishes, and pick up plenty of tips and techniques from your instructor, an experienced local chef.

Finally, sit down in the garden with your newfound friends to enjoy your homemade lunch or dinner, including perfectly cooked rice and a scrumptious dessert. Before you leave, be sure to note down the recipes of your favorite dishes so you can recreate them back home.

Well it started off by having to wait about 45 minutes for other customers that forgot to turn up then we travelled to a market that was filthy with rotten food ,dogs and flies, then we done the cooking class and it was nothing special just more or less a production line , the host and the people where good.

Loved this tour !! Picked up at our accommodations on time , went to the local market and then welcomed in Made’s home where we learned about the culture and made some amazing food!! Very flavorful and delicious!! Everyone involved was friendly and welcoming! Highly recommend this tour!!!

This cooking class was absolutely amazing. The food was delicious, cooking instructor was very entertaining and the level of instruction well catered to all experience levels. We were given ample time to sit down and enjoy each meal after it was prepared. I was particularly impressed at how accommodating the class was for vegetarian members of the group: the meals were well thought through and very tasty! Unlike most cooking classes, this one was conducted inside a traditional Balinese home which made the experience very personable. The entire family was extremely friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we didn't make it to the local food markets as they were closed on a Thursday.

Perhaps because we went during the afternoon, the market wasn't included in the trip. this is ok if i'd have known, but as I expected to go there and be introduced to the local things i was a bit disapointed. Besides that, cooking was well explained, they tried there best to let everybody do something. However compared to other cooking classes i did in cambodia and thailand this one was less fun somehow, not sure why. good enough to go and learn some indonesian food though :

A joyful experience - Amazing fun with a very welcoming and friendly family. Amazing home with interesting explanation of how the family home is built up and what the separate traditional buildings are used for, traditions and way of life. A truly cultural experience.
