The English-speaking driver turned up at hotel before the appointed time which was good although his English wasn't that good. He took us to the Foreighner Entrance at Borobudur, got what looked like tickets stamped, then left, saying he would met us at the exit in two hours time which seemed fine. But we couldnt actually go through the entrance without the tickets and we were also asked to pay extra for an English-speaking guide although it was clear on our voucher that this was included. The ticket office managed to call the tour company and get the driver to return with the tickets. The driver and I then spoke with the tour company about the guide. After a lot of conversation and sending them a copy of my voucher, the driver was seen to pay cash to a guide. The guide was excellent as was the Borobudur visit itself - we had been to Bagan in Burma, Angkor Watt and Macchu Picchu so this completed the set. The other two temples needed only a few minutes stop. So, Borobudur was well worth seeing although it was very disturbing to see all the visitors, 95 % of whom I imagine were Indonesians, sitting all over the stupas etc etc despite the very clear signs saying not to as this behaviour casued damage to the stone etc.

Dear Mr Holland, Thank you very much for your extensive review. We really appreciate your feedback. We understood that there was a misunderstanding between the Viator/TripAdvisor system that made it seemed that local guide is included in the price. To made up for it, we complemented the local guide for free, to make sure you had an excellent time. All of our driver are not a guide, therefore they only speak moderate English. I would like to apologise if our trip indicates that they speak fluent English. I hope this doesn't put you off in travelling with us. Furthermore you were travelling at the peak of Islamic holiday, which is one of the biggest holiday celebration in Indonesia, so indeed Indonesian visitors were flocking the area. It is very disappointing to see their behaviour, and we are pushing the authorities to implement a much stricter policy about it. Thank you for travelling with us and we look forward to have you back to Indonesia.
