Explore the best of the San Francisco Bay Area by ferry, minicoach and vineyard tram on this 2-day combo tour that gets you out on the water, in the hills and onto the grounds of an award-winning winery. What more could you want out of a stay in San Francisco?

Alcatraz tour and Aquarium of the Bay (Day 1):

At Pier 33 on the Embarcadero, board the Alcatraz ferry for the 15-minute ride across San Francisco Bay to ‘the Rock,’ the former federal penitentiary that’s now a National Historic Landmark District. When you arrive on the island, listen to a quick overview, and then walk inside the cellblock to receive your provided headset that allows you to explore the prison independently via the acclaimed audio tour, ‘Doing Time.’

Wander through the cellblock and around the grounds, listening to commentary from former inmates and staff. You’ll learn about notorious criminals like Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelly, and enjoy views of San Francisco across the water. Most visitors spend about 2.5 hours at Alcatraz; you can stay as long as you like before getting back on the ferry to return to the city (ferries depart about every 30 minutes).

Then, head over to the Aquarium of the Bay and use your all-day access pass.

Napa and Sonoma Day Trip (Day 2):

This 10-hour tour from San Francisco to Sonoma and Napa begins with hotel pickup by biodiesel minicoach. Travel north toward wine country, exiting the city by crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. Look out at the Pacific Ocean on one side and San Francisco Bay and Alcatraz on the other before moving into the Marin Headlands, near Mt Tamalpais.

As you enter Sonoma County, admire rolling vineyards and hills while your guide tells you about this renowned viticulture region and its different varietals of wine. Your first stop is Benziger Family Winery, where you’ll take a 45-minute tour by open-air tram. Traverse the property’s biodynamic vineyards, see the fermentation center and crush pad, and walk into the cool barrel cave. You’ll learn about Benziger’s winemaking philosophy and practices, from the growing of pesticide-free organic grapes to the aging process to the bottle.

Visit the tasting room for a sample of wines, and then sit down to a picnic lunch, which includes a deli sandwich (ham, turkey, roast beef or vegetarian), pasta salad, fruit and a cookie.  Afterward, return to your minicoach for the drive through more of wine country’s picturesque terrain, making your way into Napa County. Visit three to five wineries and tasting rooms in the towns of Oakville, Yountville or Napa.

Your day trip ends with the return journey to San Francisco; make a photo stop at a viewpoint above the Golden Gate Bridge before hotel drop-off in the city.
Itinerary
Alcatraz Island

Via the provided audio tour 'Doing Time,' you'll hear interviews from former inmates such as Al Capone (Scarface) and Machine Gun Kelly. Expect to spend up to 2.5 hours on the self-guided audio tour; you can explore the prison grounds and stay as long as you wish before hopping back on the ferry to return to Pier 33. Enjoyed the two wineries in Sonoma...not so much the one chosen in Napa. Loved the boxed lunches, shared a ham and turkey, lots to eat.

The whole experience was more than I would have expected. Mitch your guide for our NAPA/Sonoma day trip was very knowledgeable and made our day very enjoyable. Our trip to Alcatraz was amazing and the ease of picking up our tickets and getting to Alcatraz made it that much enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this Tour to all my friends. The Alcatraz tour was great...and glad we booked early as the day we were there tickets were sold out with next available being two weeks away. The reason we chose the Vine to Wine tour was not only you get to go both to Sonoma and Napa, but also the inclusion of the stop on the way back to see the Golden Gate from the hills above. However, traffic was heavy on the way back due to leaving late so we never got to stop and see the bridge----this tour was a bit more expensive, but thought it was worth it because the others did not include this stop, and then we didn't get it anyway. So that was disappointing. Also expected the bus to be two seats on each side down the aisle. But it was a smaller van type bus, and my wife and I were the last on the pick up, so we didn't get to sit together....as was the same for another couple since they were bench seats for three. The first winery was nice and people very friendly. Tasting was complementary. Second one was the tour of the grounds and a tasting. Complementary, but a little heavy on trying to sell you bottles and light on the amount served. Sonoma square was a nice little area. Tasting very limited, and cheese and chocolate tasting not what it was hyped up to be. The last two stops were in Napa, nothing complementary offered. First was a dud, and the second nice but pricey---but great views. Driver said we could stop at specific wineries if we wanted, and several were mentioned, but we did not go to even one those. so not sure why he asked So, pluses were that it was a smaller group, the driver friendly, and saw both Sonoma and Napa. Minus was not getting to see all we paid to see, not being able to sit with spouse, and maybe better choices for the Napa wineries. tour description should be better about what you should expect to pay for, and what is complementary---and there were only two wineries in the afternoon as opposed to 3-5 stop at Golden Gate in the description

Hi, I loved both tours. Alcatraz was informative and interesting. Wine tour was great, we had very nice weather. Our tour guide was young but friendly. She picked us up on time and van was fairly new and comfortable. Lunch was also great, roast beef sandwich with an apple. The only thing i would suggest is water, or something else to drink with it. Wineries were great choice. I am not too much into wines but my husband had a blast. Our kids were bored but they are teenagers so its expected. My favorite winery was Jacuzzi, beautiful property and I also liked olive oil tasting. All in all, I had great time and I took tons of pictures. I would recommend this tour to anyone.
