Lunch

Hmm...we can’t seem to find this place. Please check the spelling, or choose another location.

8:00 AM
We also do pickups from bus stops in Reykjavík, some hotels are located within a traffic restricted area and you would need to meet us at a nearby bus stop. We do pickups at bus stops #1 to #14, excluding bus stops #2 and #11.
Start your full-day tour from your Reykjavik hotel, and enjoy the scenery from the comfort of your Mercedes Benz minibus as you journey into Iceland’s countryside.

On route, hear tales from your guide about the Golden Circle, and each site’s place in Icelandic history and folklore. Stay refreshed with complimentary on-board snacks and use the on-board WiFi as you wish.

Enter UNESCO-listed Thingvellir Park and observe the geological rift where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. Gaze at the ridges of the two continents, and see Althing, site of the world’s first parliamentary gathering in 930 AD.

Stop to admire the two-tier falls of Gullfoss, whose name means ‘Golden Falls,’ and be sure to capture photos of the cascades as they plunge into a gorge.

Visit Geysir, an active geothermal area of bubbling springs and geysers. Walk around the pools and see the mighty Strokkur geyser erupt, shooting high into the air every few minutes.

Along the way, break for lunch (own expense) and make an additional stop at another natural treasure — the Faxi waterfall. Admire this picturesque fall and see the salmon ladder built beside it that allows salmon to journey upriver.

Your tour concludes with a hotel drop-off.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Hveragerdi
The first stop of the day is the town Hveragerði, where we have a short restroom stop. Hveragerði is about 45 min drive from Reykjavik. There are restrooms, a bakery and an exhibition about earth quakes. Consider this a short pit-stop on our way to the Golden Circle.
Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At:
Faxi (Vatnsleysufoss) Waterfall
Faxi is sometimes called the little brother of Gullfoss, it is a small but beautiful waterfall in the Golden Circle area. Through Faxi runs the salmon fishing river Tungufljót. There are viewing platforms from up above the waterfall and guests can also have an intimate experience as they walk almost all the way up to Faxi. Despite its small stature compared to Gullfoss, up close its strength can not be denied.

Stop At:
Gullfoss Waterfall
Gullfoss, is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. It is powerful and tall. Through it the river Hvítá, which is a glacier river originating from Langjökull, plunges down this two step waterfall. There are a handful of viewing platforms to observe the waterfall and above Gullfoss there is Gullfoss center where there are restrooms, a cafeteria and gift shops. NOTE: The path leading all the way up to the waterfall is closed during the winter season.
Duration: 40 minutes

Stop At:
Woolmarket Myrkholt
Myrkholt is a farm located in between Geysir and Gullfoss. The owners are welcoming and friendly, but the woolmarket allocates beautiful home made woolen sweaters, hats, gloves etc. from the neighbouring farms. All made with local wool by the local farmers. There are a handful of horses, foals, sheep and during late spring there are new born lambs to see there as well. Its simply a wonderful stop to make, especially for animal lovers and children! The horses especially are very photogenic and are always willing to strike a pose for their guests :)
Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At:
Geysir
In Haukadalur there is a field of hot springs associated with the hot spring Geysir, but Geysir is one of the most famous hot spring in the world and used to be a geyser. The main display is the hot spring geyser Strokkur, which erupts approximately every 5 minutes. Here we have time to walk around the area and this is also where we break for lunch. At Geysir center you find restrooms, gift-shops and the restaurant Glíma which serves for suitable for any pallet or diet.
Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes

Stop At:
Thingvellir National Park
Þingvellir is full of history and natural beauty. It stands between the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This rift valley has a special place in the hearts of all Icelanders. It is where our nation was formed by the Norse Viking settlers when they established the oldest parliament in the modern world, Alþingi Íslendinga, in the year 930 AD. At this stop there will be enough time to walk around and explore this natural marvel. This is the closest you can get to being in two continents at the same time. We will have the opportunity to walk in the rift valley, where the tectonic plates are pulling apart. We can observe this movement since under the national park the Eurasian and the North-American tectonic plates are moving apart by ~2 cm every year. Þingvellir was designated as a World Heritage of UNESCO in 2004 and is unquestionably one of the most beautiful and historic places in Iceland. In the area there are restrooms and coffee shops for visitors.

Golden Circle with Extra Treats

A fantastic tour. Our tour guide Gusti was brilliant, he was talkative throughout the journey, giving both facts about each area, with history and geology knowledge, and encouraged questions about anything we saw. Learnt the interesting history of the Alaskan Lupine! the weather forecast predicted a storm coming in for around 2pm, so Gusti took initiative and reversed the tour order so we could see the most exciting stops in the dry! This was perfect as then we only got wet on the very last stop. I would say this tour is stands out from other golden circle tours as they include an extra little stop to see some horses and take selfies with them. Overall an incredible tour, we also went with this company to see the South Coast and it was just as good, would definitely book again!

Weather great so the trip was great. Sara our guide was very good. Saw the little falls, the big falls, the geysir and the tectonic plates. Even had a bit of time to visit a working farm. All in all a good day.

Great apart from the farm visit

The waterfall, the visit to the farm took up time, would have preferred more time at the plates and waterfall, too much time at lunch as people were being brought to secret lagoon. Good tour but itinerary not 100%

We were lucky enough to have Siggi as our guide for both our tours with this company. He is very entertaining, informative and has a great music playlist. You get the perfect amount of time to enjoy each stop throughout the day and we appreciated the lunch recommendations!

Driver was really helpful and informative. He tried to miss the crowds and gave us regular stops. I would recommend paying for the smaller minibus as it’s more personal

Great sights, good value

There is a lot of travelling involved but the sights are worth it. Drinks and refreshments ARE NOT included as listed so be mindful of this; though there were plenty of stops where they could be purchased including a lovely lunch stop. Friendly, knowledgeable guide and was great to see the waterfalls and geysirs. In winter be prepared for a rough drive in places. Overall this tour was good value for money and we would recommend.

Our tour guide had a lovely local touch and took us to some extra places not listed with some extra time we ha. This is a great tour for getting to see it all while also getting to relax and not worry about getting from place to place. Highly recommend!

Such a great company! We weren’t successful seeing the Northern Lights the first night so they allowed us to rebook for the next night at no extra charge. We were successful seeing the lights and it was spectacular!!! Highly recommend!

Great tour, but guide killed the mood

Overall this was a great day trip and well worth seeing this spectacular part of Iceland. I’m withholding the last star because our guide really ruined the vibe of the trip for our group by chastising us for *almost* being late back to the bus after our first stop. We arrived at bus 2 minutes before our given deadline but still got told off like a pack of naughty kids. I completely understand the need to keep the tour moving, but a public shaming was uncalled for. I’ve not experienced this with Viator excursions before and hope not to again.

Great trip. Friendly guide. Good variety of attractions, plenty of restroom stops too! Maybe layer up more than I did as weather changes so much. Be prepared for rain, sun and a drenching if you go to the waterfall edge!
