On arrival, meet your instructor to adivse of your ability level—beginner, intermediate, or experienced.

Get up-close to the Icelandic horses, learning about this gentle breed. Descendants of Viking horses brought here in the 10th century, these sturdy, good-nature steeds are known for their tölt, a four-beat gait that makes riding on rugged terrain smooth and comfortable.

Next, watch a short instructional video, don your provided riding gear, and hop into the saddle. Learn to ease your horse into the tölt, and set out behind your instructor. Soon afterward, having watched you riding, your instructor splits you into three groups—beginners, intermediates, and experienced.

Beginners ride slowly over easy terrain, with intermediate and experienced riders tackling more challenging routes at different paces. Just advise your instructor if you want to go slower or faster.

As you ride, soak in the beautiful scenery. Weave through lava fields and moorland, passing volcanic mountains and lakes.

After your trek, savor coffee, tea, or hot chocolate at the stables.

This was an amazing...

This was an amazing experience. The horses were beautiful and majestic, and the landscape for the ride was incredible. What really stood out were the guides. Being a beginner, I was very nervous. But they were so attentive and encouraging, that I was soon at ease and able to really relax and enjoy. It's a short drive from Reykjavik, so don't miss it!

The horses are so docile and well cared for. We really enjoyed our ride through the lava fields and the guides do a nice job of offering a bit of information about the history of Icelandic horses. They do a good job of making sure every level of rider feels comfortable.

Horses great, scenerio ok

The bus was over 20 minutes late picking up. They should tell people to expect a wait in the instructions. The horses are beautiful and the staff very nice. The slow ride was ok. My jids said the gast ride was better. Not particularly scenic with big power lines on the slow ride and it was very flat. The people working the ranch were quite lovely though. Wish I could give a better review.

The staff were so friendly and attentive. It was a welcoming atmosphere from the start, and my guide (I forget her name, oh no!) was so friendly and gave us so much information. The horses were healthy and happy. The scenery was gorgeous. I have nothing but kind things to say about this experience!

We went to the wrong stable but Ishestar, the correct stable, was really helpful and waited for us to arrive without any charge or problem. The horses were really friendly, the countryside was beautiful and the leader (Eliza) was extremely friendly and informative about Iceland.
