In the early hours of the morning, greet your guide at your Quetzaltenango accommodation and climb aboard a coach destined for the mighty Santa Maria volcano. After a short drive, you’ll disembark and begin your hike of Guatemala’s fourth highest volcano with your guide and small group.

As you climb, listen to informative commentary and enjoy the tranquility of the sunrise. After a challenging hike, you’ll reach the top and be rewarded with spectacular views of Guatemala’s dramatic volcanic landscapes and highlands. Gaze at molten lava bubbling within the crater of Santiaguito volcano — one of the world’s most active volcanoes — and see other fiery peaks such as Acatenango, Fuego and Agua.

After ogling Lake Atitlan, descend the volcano and enjoy a well-deserved rest on the journey back to your Quetzaltenango accommodation.
