Overview

Moab is blessed with the Colorado River running right through the middle of the desert, and on this Moab whitewater rafting tour, experience a scenic float down the river that also has Class III rapids. This tour takes place near Fishers Tower, which is just on the outskirts of Moab, where you can swim in the river, photograph wildlife, and listen as your guide explains the geology and history behind the canyons.  With various departures during the day at 9:00 am, 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm, the half-day trip can fit into most schedules. This activity will end right where it started.
This Moab whitewater rafting tour begins in the middle of town, when you meet your professional whitewater guides at the central Moab office. From here, you’ll receive an intro and safety briefing and get loaded up in the van, which will shuttle you out to the Fishers Tower section of the Colorado River. With its soaring spires, vertical canyons and deeply red-hued rocks, this section of river feels like blissfully remote, despite being so close to town.

Before boarding the raft for the splash-filled journey, get fitted with a lifejacket and listen as your guide explains the course of the river. Your guide will propel the raft by oars, so you can sit back and enjoy the scenic, sometimes bumpy, cruise. The rapids on this section are Class II-III and are the largest in early summer snow melts. If you choose to paddle an inflatable kayak instead of riding in the raft, your guide will provide a paddling lesson and make sure you can follow commands.

As you make your way down the Colorado River, keep your eyes peeled for birds and wildlife that can often be seen on the banks, and listen as your guide explains the history and geology of the rocky canyons. At the end of the journey, after splashing down the river or going for a swim, your trip ends with a short ride back to downtown Moab.

Half-Day Rafting Trip:Since there are multiple departures during the day, it’s easy to work your schedule around the 7-mile (11-km) half-day rafting trip. Lunch along the riverside is included with noon departures.

We had an excellent guide, Luke. He was very personable and told fun/interesting stories. I sat up front so I got nice and soaked which is what I wanted. We even made friends with some of the other guests! However, there was another guide Lake, who was rude to Luke and I didn't appreciate it. He also threw the water proof bag with our phones in it and shrugged it off when Luke called him out for it. Not cool bro. Everyone else was nice and lunch was good. Totally would go again!!

Expected white water rafting, but we just floated down a river for 2 hours.

Elijah, our guide, was engaging and funny. Unfortunately we feel completely miss-sold and robbed of our money. The image and info on the advert implies that there would be some class 3+ rapids and that we would be paddling. In reality the rapids were barely noticeable and only the guide paddled with 2 large oars. There was zero adrenaline, which exactly why you do these things. I didn't even get wet! Although the Colorado river was nice. It got pretty boring after 30mins and the scenery didn't change. The advert should be updated with more accurate information (perhaps regarding seasonal river flow rate and resulting rapids) and also a picture that reflects the actual experience!

Windy disaster

The wind was horrible our poor guide was worked to death. He had I guess the wrong oars. We had to get off the river half way and hike up to the road There was no communication with base camp for this kind of disaster

Navtec expedition didnt send the correct size life jackets for multiple Kids in our group (including 2 of ours) and others. We werent allowed to raft because of safety concerns( rightfully so) expressed by the raft guide( who was actually nice and apologised). Navtec asked me to call viator myself to process the refund. They couldnt accommodate any other activity for the rest of the afternoon either. They did apologise for the mix up- but I think its basic planning that failed! Total waste of a full day in beautiful Moab! Dont recommend!

The rapids were the most exciting, even getting wet was awesome. The kids wanted more rapids but maybe next time we will book the all day with more rapids. Our tour guide, Luke, was awesome especially for that being his first time without a trainer. Thanks Luke for an amazing time.

Jesse and Prichard were very knowledgeable about the river and all things Moab. They were even good sports about our sons asking 1000+ questions. I would recommend Navtec to anyone looking to explore Moab.

We had a wonderful time floating down the river with our guide Jesse, he was great. The trip was so relaxing and the scenery was incredible. Our lunch before hand was delicious and everybody was super nice. We really enjoyed our experience and are seriously considering making the trip again when the water level is higher later this month.

Beautiful but March is too early to do ot

Friendly host/guide. Beautiful landscapes. The experience was underwhelming because in mid March, the water level is too low as the Colorado mountains snows are yet to melt. The end result is a leisurely ride with zero adrenaline. I recommend to do it a couple of months later.

We needed a relaxing day and this was perfect, the guide was great and the bus driver drove impeccably. They were friendly and informative and it was beautiful. Wish the river wasn’t so low but that’s not in anyone’s control.

We had an awesome first experience white water rafting down the Colorado river with David as our guide. We saw some beautiful views and even some local wildlife. Even though the water level was low we still experienced some "rougher" waters on the level I & II rapids and we still got wet! 🤣 We will definitely do this again and next time I think we will be ready for the next level! 😃

Fun time with nice views of the river, dani and greg our tour guides were awesome. Although the rapids are not too big as we pick the gentler tour if you like get to swim at the nice calm parts of the river or a rapid if you like amazing experience

A Great Rafting Experience
Cory_F
, Sep 2021
Although the rapids were only class when I visited, it was a great introduction to whitewater rafting. Plus, the water was perfect for swimming. It’s also a nice exposure to the geography of the Colorado River. The guides and other staff are experienced, friendly, and emphasize safety. I would definitely recommend this experience for families with high school age kids or older!
