Meet your guide at the Hostel Mundo Joven facade. Begin your insider tour of the city's best markets the way the locals do:

Your first stop is a market that even some locals don't know about. As you have a look around, learn about the context of this place in Mexican social and political history in the early 20th century. Hear about the market's connection to prominent Mexico City historical figures Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo.

Jump back on public transport and head to the 3 in 1 flower market. Continue a few blocks to a market that has 3 parts: flowers, fresh produce and prepared food. Ask one of the vendors in the largest flower market in the city to pick out some flowers that match your eye color. Stroll through the warren of stalls chock full of local products, atole, taco, huarache dish, tamales and pineapple tepache as you walk.

Last stop is a local patio for some more food samples, also a cooking spicy hand-on class ensuring you won't end your 5-hour tour hungry.

Highly recommend - Rodrigo is the best!

This tour was great, we highly recommend it! We learned a ton of history about CDMX and visited the grocery + flower markets, and then made our own salsa with lunch. Lots of delicious snacks along the way too. It was about 6 hours, so be sure to factor that in. Rodrigo was an amazing tour guide — very personable and super knowledgeable about all things CDMX! Ask for him if you can. Evelyn and her family at the final restaurant where you make salsa and eat lunch are also very kind.

Our guide Evelyn gave us an unforgettable tour. Helped us understand so much of Mexican culture and history. She has great passion on so many subjects and she is very very knowledgeable with Mexican history, politics, art and definitely cooking and local food. Her passion about the culture makes her very generous with every information she is giving in the tour. She took us to many little secret places with great pleasant surprises. We learned so much on this tour and definitely enjoy and appreciate Mexican food even more afterwards.

Our tour guide was Hash and I cannot say enough good things about him and the tour experience. He took us to three different markets and we saw various things that we never would have experienced had we not been with him on the tour! He delighted us in his choices for food samples along the way. He loved our questions and he was so genuine telling us of his background growing up and living in Mexico. This tour was the highlight of our trip to Mexico City.

What we loved about this tour was the rich knowledge of our guide and his flexibility related to what the clients interest were. We especially liked the tour to the flower market and the butcher sections. It was very interesting trying chapulines (grasshopers) in the market.
