Why Travelers Choose This Tour
Saved to wishlist!
Be ready for morning pickup at your Krakow hotel, and drive to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum and Memorial, where more than an estimated one million Jews and other targeted populations were murdered during World War II. The former Nazi concentration and extermination camp is now preserved as a memento of Europe's darkest chapter.
Skip the entrance lines with a timed ticket, and connect with your guide for a tour of the camp including prisoner barracks, the unloading ramp, and ruins of a gas chamber and crematorium. Spend some time at Auschwitz I, the former SS administrative center, or at Auschwitz II-Birkenau, where most of the murders took place (depending on option selected). After this sobering visit, take a break for reflection and tuck into a provided boxed lunch.
In the afternoon, explore the mesmerizing underground world of the Wieliczka Salt Mine. Be prepared for a steep climb down several hundred steps as you descend into the tunnels and caverns of one of the world’s oldest salt mines. Admire sculptures carved out of salt rock and see mysterious saline lakes during your guided visit. Return to the surface via an elevator, and relax on the return drive to your Krakow hotel in the evening.

Itinerary
The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim, less than 70 km from Krakow, lies on the grounds of the former Nazi German concentration camp. The main camp KL Auschwitz was created in the mid-1940s, in the nearby suburbs of Oswiecim. A year later the German Nazis established the second part of the camp Auschwitz (II) - Birkenau which became the largest extermination centre for European Jews. It is the most recognizable symbol of the Holocaust and human genocide in the world. The Memorial Site is an area of almost 200 ha, over 150 buildings, and about 300 ruins, including remains of gas chambers and crematoria destroyed by the Germans. The trip includes permanent exhibitions, original buildings of the main Auschwitz camp and the most important buildings of the Auschwitz (II) - Birkenau camp.
Duration: 3 hours
Admission Ticket Included
We predict a long break about 60 to 90 minutes for lunch. In the winter, from November to the end of February, this break is reduced to about 30-45 minutes due to the mine closing earlier. Depending on the order of the visits the lunch break can be in the town of Wieliczka near the Salt Mine, or near the Auschwitz Museum in Oświęcim.
The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the most recognizable tourist attractions in Poland. About 1 million tourists visit every year. The origins of the mine date back to the Middle Ages. In the 16th century, the Wieliczka Salt Mine was the most profitable enterprise in Europe. Profits from salt extraction in the times of Casimir the Great constituted 30% of the entire kingdom's income. Visiting Wieliczka takes about two and a half hours.
Duration: 3 hours

Among others, you can visit the Birkenau ramp, the crematoria ruins, prisoner living barracks, and the prisoners' sauna where you can observe the personal photographs of the people that perished in the gas chambers.
