Established in the early 1940s by the Nazis, Auschwitz was originally intended for Polish political prisoners. Later, when it was extended to include the neighboring site of Birkenau, it became a larger complex for primarily European Jews, killing an estimated 1.1 million people.

Begin your half-day trip with pickup at your Krakow hotel or in the city’s Main Square. Accompanied by your local guide, travel out of the city to the town of Oswiecim. A documentary on the history of the Holocaust is available onboard for some insightful background before reaching the Auschwitz-Birkenau complex.

Your group is one of the first to enter the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. Your guide explains the camp’s history in a sensitive manner as you tour the grounds and museum exhibitions, paying homage to the lives lost.

Your trip concludes with a drop-off in town.

Rude tour guide
, Jul 2022
I booked this tour for me and my 60 year old father. The pick up was late. They asked us to be at the meeting point at 11:15 am. They picked us up at 11:40 The driver "Chris" picked us up in a personal car saying we were really lucky that the van was full and they didn't have enough space for us. Now we were going to have a "private tour" he was really nice on the way there. When we got to Birkenau it was raining (its all outdoors), he told us to meet him back at Auschwitz I at 3:55 to enter the museum at 4:00. Since it was raining a lot we ended up we had to take cover a few times and it caused us to arrive to auschwitz at 4:06. ( I called him at 3:40 to let him know) He was livid! Mad! When I saw him I waved at him and told him! Hi! We are back! He said yes, but you are late! He switched from being this nice guy to a complete jerk, super rude and everything I told him he had a come back about how we were late. We went into Auschwitz at 4:15 toured around and were ready to leave at 5:45. We came outside and called him. He said to wait for him 5 min, he picked us up to take us back to krakow. The entire way back he kept going back and forth about us being late from birkenau. Even though we completed both places in 15 minutes less than the estimated time.

Excellent tour. The meeting point in Krakow was easy to find. The drive to Auschwitz was smooth. I'd read about other tours that showed a video on the way to the concentration camp and would have liked to see that on our way. The local guide was fantastic, although I do wish we had been given some time on our own - to reflect and explore. It did feel quite rushed. Lunch was a brown-bagged lunch with sandwiches, fruit, etc. Tasty and filling, but we only had a short time to eat it. This was the only tour I've been on where we weren't given time to visit any of the shops - and for once I would have liked to! The guide mentioned several books and I would have liked the opportunity to look for them.
A must see

During in the 2nd World War, the Nazis eradicated 1,300,000 people of which 1,100,000 Jews in these camps. Here everything had reuse value: clothes, shoes, hair, golden teeth... The only thing without value was the people being transported to the camps. The visit made a lasting impression - and can only be recommended.
One should never forget what has been done in Auschwitz
, Sep 2018
Our driver was nice and he showed us film before we entered the area of Auschwitzi. It was informative film. Our guide inside Auschwitz knew what she was talking about. Only negative was that we had only 15min to eat and go to toilets so that was quite a rush, especially when there were lot of other people too going to the toilets. And keep coins with you! Toilets costs 2 zlotys and they did not have any change!
The guide makes the tour
, Jul 2018
This was my third tour of Auschwitz, and unfortunately, my worst. What made that even sadder is that I brought my wife and children this time. Our English-speaking guide, Theresz, spoke English alright, but with a very heavy, heavy accent. It made understanding her very difficult. Since a tour guide can make or break a tour, and owing to the very important subject matter of Auschwitz, a good guide with critical language skills is essential. Unfortunately, we did not get this this time.
Good Tour

Very interesting tour. The guide at Auschwitz and Birkenau was very knowledgeable. The tour compresses a lot of information into about 5 hours of onsite touring. Provided a great box lunch but only allowed 15 minutes to eat it. Wear comfortable shoes. You'll do ALOT of walking. I only have one negative and it's more of a comment that doesn't go to the tour itself. The driver who picked us up at our hotel texted on his phone while driving nearly the entire trip to and from Auschwitz. I didn't care for that.
a mediocre tour
, Jul 2018
The pick-up was flexible to my location in Krakow, and the transport was great. The video on the way up was extremely interesting and the vans were comfortable. It is well organized, my only trouble was with our guide. If you have even the slightest knowledge of what happened at Auschwitz, the guide is no use to you. We were provided superficial information or quite an overview and the guide often repeated herself verbatim several times at Auschwitz and at Birkenau. However, this was not drive home a point, but more so felt like a form of memorization or scripting on her part. There was a lack of feeling to this guide experience as she spoke with the passion of an automated weather alert. My partner went through a different service and spoke of her guide. At that point I felt even more cheated out of a proper guide experience. I would recommend using a different service. I will no longer use Viator/ discover Krakow for tours.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable. It was very well organized. I would recommend taking this tour. You learn things you never learned in school. It was a horrific time and very disturbing but something we all should see.

If you are using Viator to set this up, be sure you are only traveling in a group of two or less. Otherwise, you might end up getting split up by Discover Cracow into two or more buses.
Bad staff. Unorganized.
, Jun 2018
They split our family in two groups. We confirm a week before and again a day before. . . Discover Cracow was a mess. Rude people. Don’t have control of anything. They could of transfer a couple from the other bus so we can be all together. The person in charge said it was impossible. So stupid response.

This was an extremely well-organised trip. We took the early option, leaving Krakow before 7.00am and so missing the larger crowds that arrive later. It is vital to book in advance. The guide who took us round the two sites was very informative and more than willing to take extra questions as we walked. The experience is a very emotional one with many poignant moments as you walk along the same paths and pass through the same buildings and yards as those who met their deaths there. I would definitely recommend this tour.

This place is a must-see. The millions who died there is unbelievable. Only thing I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the tour bus we were on had no documentary film which I have read from others are available. The driver was curt and did not smile at all. There was no commentary during the ride. The tour guide at the camp gave us a lot of information but he had this monotone that when he spoke it felt like we were listening to a robot and his English was not clear. Also my listening device was faulty towards the end of the tour so I missed the last part. The tour guide tried to fix it but only succeeded after the tour.

Incredible tour, very emotional and informative. We had many moments of silence where we could pay our respects to the victims. Our tour guide was incredible! She did a phenomenal job giving us perspective and helping us understand the history. She was very inspiring. I highly recommend this tour.

Great tour, mini bus trip comfortable, arrived Auschwitz before the rush. Guide informative - his facial expressions were a little over the top the, information and atmosphere were powerful enough to convey the horrors experienced by the inmates.

The driver was great. My only complaint is that I felt pretty rushed through Auschwitz. Went through so fast I wasn't able to read all the displays. Same with Birkenau, but it was so cold it was ok to hurry. All in all I was pretty happy with the trip.

It was a very early start to the day - 6:30 pick up - but well worth it. The tour itself, walking around the sobering site, listening to the history, viewing the photos, the living conditions for those who weren't summarily killed upon arrival was very sobering - I'm still processing it all. It's just one of those things one should experience, though. Efficiently organized. Highly recommended.
