Set off on your tour with hotel pickup in the morning or afternoon. Board an eight-passenger minivan with a small group of travelers for the scenic drive toward the suburb of North Dunedin. Your guide makes a stop at Baldwin Street, the world's steepest residential street.

The drive continues up the Leith Valley toward the Craigieburn Reserve for views of the city, Ross Creek Reservoir, and Otago Harbour. Learn about efforts to conserve the lowland Rimu forest and hear of the early pioneers who settled the area. Then, pass by the upscale homes of Maori Hill and see other fine architecture, such as Olveston House, on a drive through the Dunedin Town Belt.

Stop briefly at the Octagon in the city center for a look at several significant buildings and a statue of the Scottish poet, Robert Burns. Down the road, focus your camera on the historic Dunedin Railway Station, one of the most photographed buildings in the southern hemisphere.

Upon reaching the Otago Peninsula, search the shore for wildlife such as yellow-eyed penguins and New Zealand fur seals. Admire unrivaled vistas from several lookouts over the eponymous harbor before a final stop in the leafy suburb of St. Clair. Stroll along the beachfront promenade at one of the South Island's most popular surf spots, before the return trip to your centrally located hotel.

Unfortunately the excursion was cancelled

Unfortunately this excursion was cancelled because of insufficient numbers. Chris was most apologetic and tried at first to rearrange my booking but in the end he offered me a full refund so that I could make definite alternative plans. So although I can't give feedback about the outing, I've given 3 stars as they were honest and helpful

Dunedin City Tour was good but the nature journey on the peninsula was a long trip on winding dirt roads to the beach just to see a couple of seals lying on the beach. If you are a nature lover you would enjoy this aspect but didn't grab us.

The shuttle was late in arriving due to a traffic jam which was of some concern as our time was limited, but the driver got us back to the ship at the designated time. The driver took us to a lot of interesting and picturesque places, some of which we didn't expect and he was very informative in a pleasant way. Kudos!

Quite an extensive tour of Dunedin...

Quite an extensive tour of Dunedin. The driver/guide seemed to be very knowledgeable and had a good sense of humour. We were driven in a small 8 seater bus and made stops at many places of interest. I highly recommend the railway station the architecture is spectacular and it boasts one of the longest platforms in the world. The Otago university is also something to see. There are plenty of stops for photo shoots which are reasonably unhurried. We were picked up from the port as we were travelling on the Ovation of the seas. We were given the choice of being returned to the ship or doing our own exploring. We chose the latter and caught the free shuttle back to the ship. All in all very comprehensive and educational. Dunedin is a beautiful city and very Scottish in it's architecture. There is even a bronze statue of the poet Robbie Burns in the centre of the main shopping area, The Octagon,so named for obvious reasons.
