Overview

In February 1942, the North Australian city of Darwin was bombed by Japanese forces. With this two-for-one deal, cruise around the Darwin waterfront on the Bombing of Darwin cruise, sailing by landmarks like the wreck sites of the SS Neptuna and USS Peery; then visit the historic Royal Flying Doctor Tourist Facility and hear the local stories of those air raids. Don’t organize these two attractions separately; book in advance and confirm them for the same day.
  • Great for families: the cruise and the VR experience are suitable for children
  • Flexible: arrange your visit to the RFD Tourist Facility around your schedule
  • No long walk between sites: both attractions are on central Stokes Hill Wharf
  • No need for a paper ticket: just download your tickets to your phone

Very enjoyable and informative

My husband and I really enjoyed this tour The boat ride was great, so nice to be out on the water, I thought we actually would see some of the ship wrecks like in Pearl Harbour but you just go over the top of where they are, we saw a turtle too so that was a bonus The RFDS interactions were awesome, very well done and definitely worth experiencing Allow some time at Stokes Hill Wharf for lunch, it’s a beautiful spot, we weren’t expecting it to have the facilities it does

Hi Kylie, thankyou for your complimentary review. So nice that you got to see a turtle. Our WW2 wrecks do sit in deep water, so they are not visible, but we're lucky to have the sonar that we do so that you can see the outline. We agree that the RFDS virtual reality is awesome.

Informative tour..bit of an experience going fast through the water wind blowing through our hair. The RFDS interactive displays were special.

Hi Leonie, thanks for taking the time to post a review. We agree the RFDS displays are special. Yes, the fast boat ride back to Stokes Hill along the Darwin seascape is an experience that blows any cobwebs away!

I loved the whole experience. It was very moving bit also funny at times. Very well presented with the holograms and all the information boards.

Interesting commentary on the boat and excellent museum on both the Royal Flying Doctor and on the bombing of Darwin. Audio visuals in the museum help you live the horrors of the bombing.

Brilliant boat trip!

This boat trip was awesome.! But don't book through viator if you can help it. They are unprofessional and rude. They also ripped off my money on another tour. This boat cruise and commentator was amazing though.

Hi Rhonda, thankyou for you kind words about the boat trip. We're glad that you enjoyed your time with us.

Very informative. We didn't have much of an idea about what happened in Darwin in WW2 before this. Seeing the location and travelling by boat around the harbour was excellent
icon Response from Host , Jun 2021
Cheers Christine, we're pleased that you enjoy the combo - the harbour in real life and by virtual reality as it was when it was Bombed. We appreciated your compliments.

Really good informative tour with fast boat fun! Also interactive and informative in museum - I found it really good value and something that was easy to fit in before returning to airport and flying home - highly recommend
