Coastal Pacific Journey - Christchurch to Picton by Train

Being able to travel along the earthquake repaired Kaikoura Coast with its magnificent coastline. To experience the excellent comfort in a very upmarket carriage with a great expanse of window. The food and drink available were also excellent

Very comfortable seating. Train left on time. Bags checked through to Wellington, a big plus for us. Scenic journey.

The train ride was excellent and the staff was helpful with one exception. Our party of five included all seniors one of which required a wheelchair. Even though the staff was attentive to her needs, they did not inform us how to get to the Bluebridge ferry. After waiting 25 min and no shuttle arrived. We began walking in the rain dragging all our luggage and the wheelchair person pushing luggage in the chair. The ferry to leave before we knew we could get there walking for a mile. Eventually A good samaritan loaded his van with us and all our luggage. The ferry was not leaving on time so we were able to make it there just before it left! Train personnel should have informed or helped us to obtain transportation to the ferry.

On the day of travel, Feb 10, the train hit a truck. The staff on board were very professional and, caring, organising alternative transport with minimal fuss. Impressive

Being a family we were seated at a table. We all enjoyed the trip. The fod was good. Perhaps the commentary could be a it more expanded, eg, more history, what crops and cattle breeds we see out the windows, more aout the wine areas.

Fantastic trip staff brilliant clean professional. Food selection very good. At $165 one way quiet expensive only down side.
