Chichen Itza
Your tour begins with an early morning departure. Arriving at Chichen Itza, join your specialized guide for an in-depth tour of the site, and enjoy the tranquility of your early-morning visit before the crowds arrive. Throughout the trip, your archaeological guide’s commentary provides essential background to the well-preserved site of Chichen Itza. Learn how this large pre-Colombian city played an important role in Mayan civilization from around A.D. 600 to 1200, and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spanish. Even today, it is still considered a sacred site by the Yucatán peninsula’s Maya population. Like many of ancient Mexico’s cities, the site was abandoned, and its ruins were hidden by jungle. Hear how the site was discovered and unearthed by archaeologists, gaining UNESCO protection and considered today one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Your guide will explain the philosophy, cosmology and mythology behind this ancient site, such as the meaning of the stone carvings, pyramids, platforms, ball courts and staircases. Visit the Observatory, Temple of the Jaguars, Temple of the Warriors and of course the famous El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulkan.  Return around 3:00 p.m. With this Viator Exclusive, your early morning trip to Chichen Itza helps you to beat the crowds so you can enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at your own leisure!

Rodrigo (guide in Chichen Itza) was fantastic! Frank (guide on way there & back) was great! Other parts of this trip had some issues. Early departure/ arrival at Chichen Itza was clutch. Wish we could’ve departed even earlier. Would be nice if tour company could iron out the pickups processes so less time is wasted at the start. (Much confusion over pickup locations and times among participants I spoke with.) They should ditch the horrible lunch buffet stop at the overpriced gouging ‘artisenias’ place where the food is meh and they charge $8 for a coconut. Instead, let the people have more time at Chichen Itza and either have lunch on their own there, or do group lunch at the Cenote location. Lunch stop was a totally frustrating, disappointing, expensive waste of time & money that could’ve been exceedingly well spent exploring more of Chichen Itza instead. At cenote, it would have been helpful if Frank had told us that it’s mandatory to rent a life jacket if you wish to enter the water so that you don’t walk all the way to the cenote to learn that, then have to turn around and walk all the way back to entrance to rent one. Loved Chichen Itza, loved Rodrigo, really like Frank. Please offer a tour that provides early morning access and longer time in Chichen Itza (like at least 3.5 hours). That’s a tour I would recommend.

A perfect day with our wonderful guide Ulises

We had a fantastic day, from early morning pick up at 5:30 from our hotel, our driver was friendly and professional, we then went on to have a wonderful informative day of culture with Ulises. So glad we took the early morning tour with Amigo Tours before the crowds descended and the heat turned up. After a couple of hours in Chichen Itza, we went on to have a lovely buffet lunch, followed by a swim in a beautiful cenote and a little tequila tasting too. Can’t recommend highly enough,… Ulises was a brilliant guide, such an enjoyable day trip. Many thanks

Totally worth going early to avoid heat and massive crowds. You will appreciate every second of getting up early after the tour. Marco & Rodrigo were amazing, gave us so many tips as well. They gave us so much history to truly appreciate the magic of chichen itza. Cenote was breathtaking. One thing could be better a little more time for pictures, but I can understand due to the time planning. Also, don't hesitate to buy some Momentos right at the chichen itza because they are cheap. The ones at the restaurant the tour takes you are much more expensive.

Marco our driver was a great friendly host and made our long drive entertaining! Choose the early time. It's super early but worth it. We were there before anyone else to all the places. Rodrigo our tour guide at the ruins was knowledgeable, friendly and went out of his way to make sure we knew the history, experience the greatness of their scared land and must be a part time photographer because he takes amazing pics!! They place is breath taking.

Great experience with Frank and Amigo tours

This trip is amazing, I would recommend it to anyone traveling to Mexico. First off, they were right on time picking us up at our hotel. The bus driver Luna is the best in the business. Our host Frank was very knowledgeable and taught us a lot about the Mayan culture on the way to Chichén Itzá. The early start of this tour is great because we got into Chichén Itzá early and beat the crowds. Our guide for Chichén Itzá was Rodrigo. Rodrigo’s knowledge and passion for the Mayan culture really shines. He taught us so much. He is a wonderful guide and we will be seeing him on National Geographic!! Our next stop was selva maya, a small Mayan settlement with shops and food. The lunch here was very good and the people are very friendly. Last stop was cenote saamal. This place is beautiful and very refreshing after a long day . Jump into the delicious water and you come out younger!

We had an amazing day with Frank as our guide for the day, please recommend him, he is a native Mayan and has a great personality for this job. He is able to educate and entertain you on the history of the Mayan culture and history. The lunch was delicious and the cenote was gorgeous and refreshing after a long hot day at Chichen Itza. Our guide at chichen itza was the best as well Rigaldo I believe his name was, request him too, he was great!!!!

Marco out tour guide was amazing, he had us laughing the entire time really knowledgeable and great guide. The bus ride was comfy and spacious, he took us to chichenitza at a great time, TRUST go on the 5am tour we left the site at 11 am and it was already 100 degrees. We then went to lunch then the cenote. It was amazing and totally worth it! Deff recommend and can’t emphasize that you do this early excursion as you do a lot you are tired at the end of it however you get back to your resort around 4 PM which leaves you with plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the evening.

Great Chichen Itza Tour
Dessy_A
, Jul 2022
Marco is a hilarious and informative guide. My hotel was in Playa Del Carmen and we were picked up from our hotel at 4:15am. Waking up early isn’t so bad considering we were the first tour bus to arrive at Chichen Itza around 8am. The pork tacos at the buffet was delicious. Drinks were extra. The cenote was a good way to end the day. Went back to the hotel around 4:30pm. Will recommend!

Great day trip
Adriana_C
, Jul 2022
Ulises, our guide, was fantastic and the bus very comfortable. I don’t understand why the cost of the tour did not include tickets to the ruins, or drinks at the lunch stop. Unnecessary hiccups to an otherwise fun and beautiful experience. Also, be prepared to be barraged by salespeople everywhere. They’re relentless, but it is what it is.
icon Response from Host , Jul 2022
Dear Amig@ Adriana_C We love knowing that you had a pleasant experience. What we do not include is the cost of the tax that is charged in Chichen, because the cost varies between foreigners and nationals, for that reason, it is only charged on the tour. We appreciate your participation Dulce, Amigo Tours

Marco did a great job. He is very knowledgable and patient. He explained the background behind the monuments and took everyone’s pictures. Please consider an option of Chichen Itza visit only - as I would have preferred to skip the lunch and cenote.
