Yosemite Valley, Yosemite National Park, California

The Basics

Head to the Yosemite Valley to enjoy ranger-led hikes, nature talks, and evening star programs. Book a guided tour to ensure that you see all the top sights; opt for guided hiking, backpacking, or camping adventure; or take a photography class.

There are also tours to Yosemite from San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, and Lake Tahoe. These run anywhere from half-day trips to week-long tours, and many combine a trip to the Yosemite Valley with stops at other nearby attractions, such as the giant sequoias and Alcatraz. For a bird’s-eye view of the valley, check out a flightseeing tour.

Wow, wow, wow! Yosemite is beautiful. What a great experience. Our tour guide, Alberto, was fabulous. He knew so much about Yosemite and the Bay Area.

Great Experience For Beginner Campers

3-Day Yosemite Camping Adventure from San Francisco
Tour was overall a good experience. We saw some incredible views in Yosemite Valley. Daniel was a dope tour guide and very chill. Included meal count listed in your description was a bit inaccurate. Everyone on my tour was a first timer for camping. Daniel made the experience very memorable and worth the money. Definitely recommend this tour and hope that you get Daniel as your tour guide. ;)

2-Day Yosemite National Park Tour from San Francisco
I am not a huge fan of yours, but this one was really great! It was limited to 12 people and we had a good mix of “drive by” photo stops, short hikes, and free time with suggested activities. Tour guide was knowledgeable and laid back. Never felt rushed. Hotel was a little dated, but the beds were comfortable and that’s what matters most after a busy day in the woods!

Small Group Yosemite and Giant Sequioas Day Trip from San Francisco
As a solo traveler I highly recommend this tour.. Hotel pickup and Brian was amazing. A nice walk in Red Woods and two wineries. Small group which was nice and I must say the two couples were friendly and inviting.

Valley Floor Explained

Yosemite Valley Tour with Transport from Oakhurst
We had an excellent experience with JAMES. Very knowledgeable and great spirit. He took my family of 10 on a tour of the valley floor. We elected the shorter 2 hour tour but could easily have spent the day with James. Thank you James and Crossroads tours for validating why it's good to hear from a guide who can share and explaining things about the park that you might not get otherwise. A sincere thank you, to Great Uncle James - Your adopted family for a few hours.

Most suitable tour for people without camping experience

3-Day Yosemite Camping Adventure from San Francisco
If you never have camping experience before, this is the most suitable tour for you. Our tour guide , Jessie, was super nice and was very helpful. She took care of set up the kitchen, cooking, etc. and of course the group also help with other stuff. Good team work makes up good experiences. The tour was fully guided on the first two days, the chosen viewpoints among Yosemite is very good. We have free day on the third day. Overall, this experience is perfect.

How to Get There

The Yosemite Valley is located in the western Sierra Nevada mountains, about 190 miles (306 kilometers) east of San Francisco. To reach the Yosemite Valley by car from the Bay Area, take I-580 east, continue onto I-205 east, merge onto I-5 north, and then take CA-120 east to Yosemite Ave. You can also reach the park via public transportation: Amtrak trains and Greyhound buses run to the town of Merced where you can hop on a YARTS shuttle to Yosemite. A free shuttle provides transportation within the park.

When to Get There

Peak tourist season at Yosemite Valley runs from early June through the end of August, so visit in the spring or fall if you want to avoid the largest crowds. The valley is at its most dramatic in late spring, when the waterfalls are at their fullest. Whenever you choose to visit, make sure to start your days early; sunrise is one of the best times to capture photos of the iconic sights.

Best Yosemite Valley Day Hikes

If you only have time for one hike in Yosemite Valley, take the Mist Trail to Vernal and Nevada Falls. If you have more time, hike to Half Dome and climb to the summit with the help of handrails embedded into the rock. The 14- to 16-mile (22- to 26-kilometer) round-trip hike is strenuous in spots, but it's well worth it for the fantastic panoramic views of Yosemite Valley and the High Sierra.
