Deangate, York, YO1 7HH

The Basics

Explore independently or join a free tour that covers the 800-year history of the cathedral and its stained glass art. General admission tickets include entry to the cathedral, the Undercroft Museum, and a tour. Alternatively, opt for a Minster and Tower combo pass, which allows you to climb the central tower for unrivalled city views; tower trips depart every 45 minutes throughout the day and can only be booked on the day.

Behind-the-scenes tours that offer access to off-limits areas such as the Chapter House and Mason’s Loft are also available for an additional fee. For a wider introduction to York’s history, visit the cathedral as part of a ghost or sightseeing tour—itineraries typically cover other major York and Yorkshire sights such as Clifford’s Tower, the Shambles, and Rievaulx Abbey. Plus, some York passes include free entry to the cathedral.

Entertaining view of York’s history
Mad Alice was an amazing guide. She made the history entertaining-and was really funny. One thing that is very true about these tor reviews-Mad Alice has an uncanny gift for remembering names. She came prepared with the names of each member in every group-it was amazing. There was a lot of group participation, too. I can’t recommend enough-you could take this tour if you’re in York!

Ghost Bus Tour of York
Our conductor 'Phil Graves' was really funny and engaging. I've been coming to York for many years and have learned a lot of its history, however this tour taught me new facts. A very fun way to learn and also a reminder that history repeats itself. Really enjoyed ourselves. Also, kudos to 'Phil' for staying in costume in 27 degree heat! Bob the driver deserves a shout too for adding to the entertainment. Would definitely book again next time we're in York.

Ghost Bus Tour of York
The guide was very knowledgable (i cant remember his name but his brother was Robin Graves), and was very funny and had a great sense of humour (just a shame half the bus guests didnt). Was great to visit the bottom of the Shambles and to hear the history by “Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate”.

Ghost Bus Tour of York
The tour guide was really fun and energetic - excellent for kids. I went alone, but I don't regret it, I had fun. I generally worry that ghost tours will give me nightmares but this was kept fun and light hearted.

Ghost Bus Tour of York
The experience was amazing and the conductor *earl Lee graves* Gary was amazing also. We went all around York as he (bob) took us to some interesting spots were we learnt about the history of the golden fleece and the shambles. I have already told at least 10 people to go onto the tour as it is a perfect way to learn about the dark histories of York.

Ghost Bus Tour of York
Very well done and loved the use of the onboard camera which sort of brought the whole bus together. The trip was both funny and factual. It was very different from anything else. Worth doing.

York Walking Tour including York Minster
Amazing tour with Emily. The tour was very interesting and informative. Emily was a wonderful guide, extremely friendly, kind and knowledgeable. I learned a lot about York. I was lucky enough to be the only person on the tour, so it was very personalised. I would highly recommend this tour!

York Walking Tour including York Minster
Our tour guide, Caroline, was very knowledgeable regarding the history of York and the best places to visit on this short walking tour. She also gave us great recommendations for places to visit on our own after the tour and good places to eat.
