Villa Barbaro (Villa di Maser)

Via Cornuda, 7, Maser, Veneto

The Basics

The countryside surrounding Vicenza is dotted by dozens of stately villas with classical architecture and sweeping manicured gardens. Known as the Palladian Villas after their architect Andrea Palladio, these rural residences were constructed in the first half of the 16th century for a handful of wealthy families from the Venetian Republic. Villa Barbaro (also known as Villa di Maser), completed around 1558, is characterized by its Roman-inspired façade with four ionic columns, interior frescoes by Paolo Veronese, tempietto (chapel), and nymphaeum with elaborate stuccoes by Alessandro Vittoria.

Today, the villa estate includes a working farm and winery, and visitors can explore the sumptuous residence, view the carriage collection, and enjoy a wine tasting. Day trips from Venice to Villa Barbaro can also include stops in the picturesque medieval hill towns of Bassano del Grappa and Asolo, along with a prosecco tasting at an area winery.

Semi-Private Prosecco Wine, Charming villages and Palladian Villa Day Tour
This was a balanced small group tour well conducted by Marco the Guide . The drive through the countryside was uplifting and the towns visited were made enjoyable by Marco's guiding skills and he allowed ample time for photo stops and free time...Apart from the bridge over the Brenta being under repair this was a tour to remember.being capped of by the wine tasting at a vineyard in the hills at the last stop. We would stress that it is a long day but well worth the time

Semi-Private Prosecco Wine, Charming villages and Palladian Villa Day Tour
Most enjoyable tour. The driver/guide was knowledgeable, patient and courteous. The towns were beautiful and it was a very full day to visit some places that had not previously been on my tourist radar. The Grappa tasting was most pleasant and the variety was surprising. Overall, a very worthwhile and memorable experience.

Good way to get out of the crowded city, and a good way to contextualize the history of the region. Good prosecco! Not to miss. Small group also a plus, although could have just as easily been a minus.

Semi-Private Prosecco Wine, Charming villages and Palladian Villa Day Tour
Very pleasant and informative trip. Our guide/driver Justin was friendly and helpful in letting us enjoy what was a somewhat hot day in July and in taking our photographs in front of the beautiful scenery. He helped us learn much about grappa and prosecco.

The Palladian Villas

The Veneto region is home to numerous Palladian Villas. Among the most famous are Villa La Rotonda, officially known as Villa Almerico Capra, which is an example of Palladio’s skill in blending architecture with the surrounding landscape; and Villa Emo, home to a fresco cycle by Giambattista Zelotti.
