Home to colonial architecture and some of the best street food in Asia, Penang’s charm is undeniable. The small size of Georgetown—the UNESCO World Heritage Site that serves as the island’s diverse cultural center—makes it easy to explore in just one day. Here’s what you need to know.
56, Jalan Low Yat, Puncak Ria, Penang, 11100
As you wander around the museum, look out for the teddies dressed as notable figures from Penang—including footwear designer Jimmy Choo, who was born in George Town. Then for a sweet souvenir, head to TeddyVille’s gift store, where you can purchase your own collectible Steiff-brand bear from Germany.
To save time at the entrance, buy your ticket in advance. Guests of the DoubleTree Resort by Hilton, where the museum is located, pay a reduced admission fee.
Things to Know Before You Go
The TeddyVille Museum is a good choice for kids, and adults interested in learning more about Penang’s colorful history.
Most visitors spend at least an hour at TeddyVille.
Photos of the teddies (and with some of them) are allowed.
How to Get There
Located on the ground floor of the Hilton’s DoubleTree Resort, the TeddyVille Museum is an easy walk from anywhere in the Batu Ferringhi Beach area of Penang Island. If you’re staying in the George Town area, get to the museum by taxi or bus. Rapid Penang bus 101 travels between George Town and Batu Ferringhi, and takes about an hour.
When to Get There
The museum is open every day from 9am till 6pm. A popular spot with locals and travelers alike, TeddyVille tends to be busy on the weekends and during school holidays.
Visit Batu Ferringhi Beach
Just outside the museum is the lively Batu Ferringhi Beach, frequented by Penang locals. Take a leisurely dip in the sea, or try a water sport such as parasailing, offered by some of the resorts dotted along the coast. Stay in the Batu Ferringhi area on the northern shore of Penang Island, or visit on a day trip from George Town.
