Jasper National Park, Jasper, Alberta

The Basics

At the Skywalk, make your way along the 1,312-foot (400-meter) Discovery Trail to the Discovery Vista. Here step out onto a curving, open-air observation platform where only a transparent pane of glass underfoot separates you from the Sunwapta Valley floor—918 feet (280 meters) below.

You can purchase an admission ticket and make your own way to the nearby Glacier Discovery Center, from where a shuttle bus transports you to the Skywalk. Alternatively, visit as part of an organized day tour from Jasper, Banff, or Calgary. Day tours typically combine visits to the Skywalk with the Athabasca Glacier, part of the breathtaking Columbia Icefield. One-way day tours, running from Jasper to Lake Louise (and vice versa), Banff to Jasper (and vice versa), and Jasper to Calgary are also available.

Amazing
The tour was well organized. Cam & Gensis were excellent driver and guides. The Brewster buses are new and comfy. As for the experience, unbelievable. It really is a special thing to go and do.

Exciting Icefield Tour

Columbia Icefield Tour including the Glacier Skywalk from Banff
We enjoyed our bus tour to the Columbia Icefield. Our tour guides, Andrew and Luke, were very knowledgeable and entertaining. The ride on the explorer to the glacier was exciting and Reeve, our driver, was competent and entertaining. The weather was cold and windy but that didn't detract from our enjoyment and sense of adventure. It was a wonderful day!

Columbia Icefield Tour including the Glacier Skywalk from Banff
Amazing scenery, well organised and going on the glacier on the glacier explorer and getting out on the ice was special. The sun was bright and weather good but it was still very cold and windy - so wrap up warm for that part of the tour.

My wife and I consider the Columbia Icefield Tour one of the highlights of our vacation. Having a chance to walk on the glacier, watch the snow melt, and ride in the Ice Transporter was an unusual and unique experience. We recommend it.

Once in a Lifetime

Columbia Icefield Tour including the Glacier Skywalk from Banff
The experience was outstanding from beginning to end. Fred was our guide and his knowledge and insights about the area added a special dimension to the overall trip. Walking on the glacier and the skywalk were unlike anything we have ever done before. This day- from pick up at our hotel to final drop off is a memory my husband and I will always treasure. Robin, our guide on the glacier was a both witty and humorous. This is a must do for anyone coming to the area; truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Views from the Skywalk

On a clear day, you will be able to see a portion of the Columbia Icefield, one of Canada’s biggest expanses of glacial ice. The North Glacier of Mt. Athabasca is also visible, as is Mt. Kitchener. If you have a sharp eye, you may even be able to spot bighorn sheep and mountain goats roaming below.
