Govetts Leap Tours and Activities

In the 1930s, when early conservationists and Australian bushwalkers were lobbying for a National Park, you could argue that places like Govetts Leap ended up making it happen. With its sweeping view of the Grose Valley and swath of forested wilderness, Govetts Leap is often considered the most scenic Blue Mountains viewpoint. Surely, while standing at the top of the sheer rock face, and gazing out at the undulating hills that are completely covered in blue gum trees, lawmakers and bush walkers could all agree that this was a place to be saved.

What makes the lookout so exceptionally stunning is 600-foot Bridal Veil Falls—the tallest single-drop waterfall found anywhere in the National Park. There is a narrow hiking trail that descends the cliff face down to the base of the falls, although the sheer drop-offs and steep climb make it a trail for serious hikers. Most visitors will be better off just gazing out at the view—or stopping at the Blue Mountains Heritage Center at the end of Govetts Leap Road.

The other side of the Blue Mountains

The other side of the Blue Mountains

If you want to see some sensational scenery this is the day for you. Mountains, valleys, escarpments, geometric rock formations, waterfalls, ferns, rainforest and botanical gardens are all on the itinerary. The day includes two bushwalks - one to a majestic lookout and the other through rainforest. Neither are long but if you would prefer not to bushwalk we have some very enticing alternatives. At Mt Wilson we admire the Cathedral of Ferns and have a short look at the quirky Museum of Turkish Baths. At Du Faur Lookout we will see some extraordinary sandstone formations. Two very different gardens are included, the Mt Tomah Botanical Gardens and Windyridge Gardens. Both are high quality. The panorama of Govetts Leap lookout, Evans Lookout and Echo Point are mandatory when we head South of the Grose River. By the end of the day you will be saying that your eyes are exhausted from beautiful scenery. At this point we head home.

The Blue Mountains National Park is a sandstone plateaux with spectacular gorges and escarpments, covered by eucalypt forest. After a wake-up coffee on the way to the mountains we will start with some wonderful lookouts and vistas (5 in all). We will then head to the Giant Stairway for a closer examination of the Three Sisters followed by a replenishing lunch. After lunch we can visit Leura Village, Scenic World and the Hydro Majestic Hotel. This itinerary is adjustable. Sydney Nimble is a small group private tour which allows us to be flexible and make decisions as we go. You might wish to include a bushwalk (short or long), or add one or two other more offbeat locations, which we can discuss on the day. The Blue Mountains is a place of exceptional beauty and you owe it to yourself to do the day in style with Sydney Nimble Tours.
